In Beatrice Prior's Chicago, Society is divided into five factions, Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful) and Erudite (the intelligent). Every year all sixteen-year-olds must decide what faction they want to be apart of. Taking on a new name, Tris and her friends must suffer extreme physical tests and mental simulations. Tris also has a secret that she must keep hidden from everyone because it could lead to her death.
